Detroit. The city that never quits. The Lions? Same vibe. After last year’s heartbreaker in the playoffs, the buzz around this team is unreal. Every network wants a piece of Detroit in prime time. And you can feel it: this season’s schedule is a gauntlet. Five prime-time games. Two holiday showdowns. A finale that’ll have the whole NFC North watching.
Let’s break down every game. Win or loss. Why it matters. And why this season is looking like it’s going to be a wild ride.
Week 1: at Green Bay Packers — WIN
Opening in Lambeau is never easy. But Detroit’s got history here. Remember Thanksgiving 2023? Grit, defense, and a little magic from Jared Goff. The Packers are rolling out a young core, but unless Jordan Love takes a monster leap, the Lions’ pass rush, bolstered by new faces and returning fire, should make life tough. Statement game. Detroit starts fast.
Week 2: vs. Chicago Bears — WIN
Home opener. Ford Field will be electric, especially with Ben Johnson now coaching the Bears. There’s always that weird energy when a former friend comes back in enemy colors. But this Bears roster is still rebuilding, and the Lions’ offense is just too deep. Goff, St. Brown, Gibbs, Jamo – the fireworks go off early. 2-0 in the division right off the bat.
Week 3: at Baltimore Ravens (Monday Night Football) — LOSS
Baltimore on the road? Under the lights? That’s a tall order for any team. Lamar Jackson’s still Lamar Jackson, and the Lions defense has struggled to contain truly dynamic QBs. Expect a battle, and the Lions have an excellent record in primetime games under Campbell. But the Ravens have the edge at home, so I have to chalk this one up as a loss.
Week 4: vs. Cleveland Browns — WIN
The Browns are unpredictable, but their offense isn’t scaring anyone. The Lions’ defensive front should feast, and the home crowd keeps Detroit rolling. The Browns’ defense got a nice upgrade with their Mason Graham pick in the draft, among other defensive additions in the off season. Think low-scoring, but comfortable.
Week 5: at Cincinnati Bengals — LOSS
Joe Burrow. Ja’Marr Chase. Cincinnati is tough at home, and by October, weather can get weird. The Lions’ secondary will be tested early and often. Plus, this Bengals team is much better than last years record indicates. Detroit will fight, but the Bengals’ weapons make the difference late.
Week 6: at Kansas City Chiefs (Sunday Night Football) — LOSS
Arrowhead is a nightmare for visitors. And Patrick Mahomes is still, well, Patrick Mahomes. This one’s a measuring stick for Detroit. Can they hang with not only one of the top teams in the AFC, but in the entire league? Sure. Can they win? Not today. But it’ll be real close, and the rest of the league will be on notice about that Detroit grit.
Week 7: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Monday Night Football) — WIN
Back home, and another prime-time slot. This feels like a get-right game after 2 tough losses on the road. Tampa’s defense is aging, and their offense can’t keep up with Detroit’s speed. Ford Field rocks, the Lions bounce back.
Nobody Panic!
4-3 at the bye. There’s going to people losing their minds. Nobody panic. We have to keep our composure! Bandwagon fans are starting to jump off here.
Week 8: BYE
Much needed. The first stretch is brutal. Time to get healthy and reset.
Week 9: vs. Minnesota Vikings — WIN
Minnesota’s in transition, and the Lions always play them tough at home. The Vikings’ new QB (rookie or otherwise) will struggle against Detroit’s pressure. Campbell’s squad takes care of business.
Week 10: at Washington Commanders — WIN
Revenge tour uploading. Washington’s got a young QB and a shaky defensive line. Detroit’s got experience, swagger, and probably a chip on their shoulder after Washington bounced them from the playoffs early. This looks like a Sonic & Knuckles game all day. And this is the kind of game Campbell doesn’t let slip away.
Week 11: at Philadelphia Eagles (Sunday Night Football) — LOSS
Philly. In November. On the road. The Eagles’ defense is nasty and the crowd will be hostile. Goff’s been here before, but this is a classic NFC slugfest. Eagles pull away late.
Week 12: vs. New York Giants — WIN
The Giants are rebuilding, and Detroit matches up well. Aidan Hutchinson will make life miserable for whoever’s under center for New York. By now, the Lions are eyeing a playoff push.
Week 13: vs. Green Bay Packers (Thanksgiving Day) — WIN
Thanksgiving in Detroit. The tradition, the energy, and the memory of past heartbreaks. A division game. On Thanksgiving. The Packers will be better than in Week 1, but Detroit feeds off the home crowd and the holiday spotlight. Lions take care of business.
Week 14: vs. Dallas Cowboys (Thursday Night Football) — WIN
Back-to-back short weeks are never easy. The Cowboys are built for prime time and typically travel well. This game will be close than last years blowout. I personally think this will be a shootout, but Detroit’s pass rush will cause just enough chaos to swing it our way.
Week 15: at Los Angeles Rams — LOSS
A trip to L.A. means facing Matthew Stafford (again). Emotions will run high, but the Rams’ offense is explosive, and the Lions’ secondary can only do so much. This one’s close, but Stafford gets his first win against the Lions since he was traded to LA.
Week 16: vs. Pittsburgh Steelers — WIN
Steelers games are always physical, but Ford Field will be buzzing. Pittsburgh’s offense is still figuring things out, and Detroit’s ground game will control the tempo. That Detroit grit wins out.
Week 17: at Minnesota Vikings (Christmas Day) — WIN
Christmas in Minneapolis, and playoff stakes will be huge. The Lions, battle-tested, grind out a win against a Vikings team out of the playoff race. Think ugly, low-scoring, but sweet for Detroit fans.
Week 18: at Chicago Bears — WIN
Finale. On the road, sure. But the Bears likely have nothing to play for. The Lions, on the other hand, could be chasing home-field advantage or a division crown. Campbell won’t let them stumble.
Regular Season Prediction: 12-5
- Wins: Packers (2), Bears (2), Browns, Bucs, Vikings (2), Commanders, Giants, Steelers, Cowboys
- Losses: Ravens, Bengals, Chiefs, Eagles, Rams
I admit, their might be a little Honolulu Blue Kool-Aid mixed into this prediction. It’s probably a “best case scenario” type situation. But, I believe our boys can get it done.
Season Outlook: Steel Nerves Required
Let’s be real: This is a brutal schedule. Five prime-time games, four against last year’s playoff teams. Dan Campbell’s crew will get tested, physically and mentally. The league’s “toughest overall schedule” label isn’t just talk. The Lions have to earn everything this year (ESPN).
But here’s the thing: adversity’s baked into Detroit’s DNA. Every setback is just another chance to prove doubters wrong. The offense is deep, the defense is young and hungry, and the city’s behind them like never before.
Some games will come down to bounces, breaks, or bad calls. That’s football. But this team has the horses to run with anyone. They’ll drop a few, but they’ll win the ones that matter. And come December, nobody’s going to want to see Detroit on their schedule.
A Personal Note
I still remember that Monday night in 2013. It was one of the last games I watched with my dad. Calvin Johnson’s monster game against the Cowboys. When the dust cleared, Johnson had 14 catches for 329 yards and a TD. The feeling in Ford Field, the hope, the belief. This team is built for those moments now. Every game’s a chance for the next Lions legend to step up. And we have plenty of candidates to do it, too.
