About That Detroit Grit

This Isn’t Just Coverage. This is a Lifetime of One Pride.

If you’ve ever lost your voice at Ford Field, if you’ve defended this team through the leanest years, and if you believe that “Grit” isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a way of life, then you’re home.

That Detroit Grit wasn’t born in a corporate boardroom. It was born in the living rooms and stadium seats of fans who have seen it all. We don’t need national “experts” to tell us about our team. We know what it means to be a Lions fan because we’ve lived the history.

A Legacy of Grit

Where the Grit began. This is me and the family at the Silverdome, circa 1983. This was the year of the Billy Sims ‘flying’ touchdown and that playoff heartbreaker against the Niners. I didn’t know it then, but these were the Sundays that built a lifetime of One Pride.

My name is Dave Sadows, and I’m the founder of ThatDetroitGrit.com. I didn’t just hop on the bandwagon during the Dan Campbell era. My Lions roots go back to the days of Billy Sims and the 1983 playoff heartbreaker against the 49ers. I remembers the electric hope of the 1991 season as a high school junior, watching Barry Sanders redefine what was possible on a football field. And if you’ve been around as long as I have, know that I felt the same optimism we all did when Chuck Long came out of Iowa to lead the Pride.

I have lived through the “SOL” years, the 0-16 heartbreak, and the endless rebuilds. I’m a cancer survivor and a lifelong Detroiter who knows that resilience isn’t just about football. It’s about the spirit of this city.

Why This Site Exists

I built That Detroit Grit because the “Brand New Lions” deserve a new kind of coverage.

  • Authentic Fan Perspective: I don’t just report the news; I react to it with the perspective of someone who remembers 1991.
  • The “Grit” Community: This is a digital bleacher. Whether you’re a lifelong fan like me or a new member of One Pride, your voice matters here.
  • 24/7 Coverage: From Draft Day drama to playoff pushes, I cover the Lions with the intensity they bring to the field.
