The Call That Changes Everything
Look, I’ve seen a lot of draft reactions over the years. Most of them while sitting in my living room, wondering if the Lions were about to reach for a kicker in the second round or draft another wide receiver when we needed defensive help. But watching Blake Miller get the call from Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell hit different.
The best part of draft weekend isn’t the mock drafts or the expert analysis that’s wrong half the time anyway. It’s watching kids realize their NFL dreams are actually happening. For most of these guys, this moment represents over a decade of grinding, of choosing the weight room over hanging out, of playing through injuries that would sideline regular humans.
Cool Under Pressure
Clemson shared the video of Miller getting the call from Allen Park, and you can see exactly why the Lions wanted this kid. Throughout the entire conversation with Holmes and Campbell, Miller stays composed. Calm. Professional.
Meanwhile, everyone around him is losing their minds in the best possible way. The excitement is bubbling up from his family and friends, phones out, capturing every second of a moment they’ll replay for the rest of their lives.
Then he hangs up. And that’s when the dam breaks.
The Roar of Support
His family surrounds him with a roar that probably woke up half the neighborhood. This is the stuff that makes you remember why you love this game, even after decades of watching the Lions find creative new ways to break your heart.
The kid maintained his cool during the most important phone call of his life, then let his people celebrate for him. That’s exactly the kind of temperament you want from your offensive lineman.
Here’s hoping we get to see the Lions’ side of that call soon. Something tells me Holmes and Campbell were pretty excited about landing their guy too.
Think Miller’s calm reaction shows he’s built for the moment, or were you hoping for more emotion? Let me know in the comments below.
