Another One Gets Away: Packers Snag Athletic Center Jager Burton
Well, here we are again. The Packers just scooped up center Jager Burton, and yes, I know what you’re thinking. Another ridiculously athletic player that could have looked good in Honolulu Blue is heading to Green Bay instead.
Burton’s got the kind of athleticism that makes you wonder what could have been. The kind of player who can move, who can make plays, who fits exactly what modern offenses need from the center position. And where’s he going? Straight to our bitter rivals up north.
This is the stuff that keeps Lions fans awake at night. Not just missing out on talent, but watching that talent end up in Green Bay where it’ll probably flourish while we’re left wondering why we didn’t make a move.
The Lions could have used a player with Burton’s athletic profile, and he represented the kind of upside that could have made a real difference. Instead, he’ll be learning the Packers’ system and potentially becoming another piece of their puzzle.
Look, maybe this works out fine for Detroit. Maybe the front office has other plans, other targets, other ways to shore up the offensive line. But when you see athletic talent like Burton’s heading to a division rival, it stings a little more than usual.
The Packers have a way of finding these guys and developing them. It’s maddening to watch, especially when you know Burton could have been the kind of player who thrives in Allen Park.
Is this just another case of the Lions missing the boat, or are we overreacting to losing a player who might not have panned out anyway? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Look, I get the frustration but this feels like we’re not giving our front office enough credit. They gotta have a plan and if Burton wasn’t it then I’m trusting the process here. We got talent on this roster already and we’re building something special, so let’s see how this plays out before we get too mad.
This is the part that kills me every time. We see a guy like this slip away to Green Bay and it’s like deja vu all over again. Maybe he becomes nothing and we dodge a bullet, but odds are he’s gonna be solid up there and we’re gonna kick ourselves for years wondering why we didn’t at least try.
I’ve been watching this team for more years than I care to count and nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to watching good talent head to division rivals. It’s always been like this with us, always watching the other guy build while we sit and wait. That’s just the Lions way sometimes.
People are way too quick to panic about every single free agent that doesn’t sign with us. Burton’s athletic but that doesn’t mean he was the answer and honestly our O-line is shaping up pretty solid already. Trust the vision, stay patient.
