Lions Get Prime Time Right Out the Gate
Well, that was fast. The Lions are headed to prime time in Week 2, and it’s exactly the matchup you’d expect when the NFL wants to put on a show. Detroit travels to Buffalo for Thursday Night Football, and honestly, this one makes perfect sense.
The Lions and Bills have already given us two absolute classics in the Dan Campbell era. Pure entertainment. The kind of games that remind you why you fell in love with football in the first place, even when your team loses both of them.
History Says This Will Be Electric
Their first meeting was Thanksgiving 2022. The Lions lost 28-25, but that game was different. Tony Romo spent the fourth quarter repeatedly telling America that “The Detroit Lions are for real,” and for once, it didn’t feel like empty hype. That was the game that announced this team had arrived.
Then came the rematch in 2024. Another shootout, another loss. 48-42 in a game that maybe goes differently if half the defense doesn’t end up in the medical tent. But what a ride it was while it lasted.
Now we get round three, and the stakes feel even higher.
New Stadium, New Coach, Same Energy
This time the Lions head to Buffalo for the first-ever game at the Bills’ new Highmark Stadium. No Sean McDermott on the Buffalo sideline after they cut him loose following that playoff loss to Denver. Joe Brady gets his shot as the new head coach.
But the core matchup remains the same. Jared Goff versus Josh Allen. Jahmyr Gibbs going up against James Cook. Two explosive offenses that know how to put points on the board in a hurry.
The Thursday night slot gives this game extra juice, and let’s be honest, the Lions have earned these prime time spots. This isn’t charity from the league office anymore. This is what happens when you build something real.
Think the Lions finally get over the hump against Buffalo, or are we destined for another beautiful heartbreak? Drop your prediction below.

Third time really does feel different though. We’re not sneaking up on anybody anymore, the Bills know what we can do, and honestly that’s when this team plays best. Campbell’s got these guys believing they belong on prime time and that matters.
I want to believe so bad, but Buffalo always seems to have our number when it counts. Josh Allen in prime time is a different beast and I’m not sure our secondary is ready for that kind of pressure. Hope I’m wrong though.
Man, the fact that we’re even talking about the Lions getting prime time spots regularly and people actually wanting to watch us play says everything about what’s changed around here. Campbell and Holmes turned this thing around from complete disaster to must-see TV. That’s not hyperbole.
Goff versus Allen on Thursday night is exactly what the league wants because you know it’s gonna be a shootout. We’re built to win these kinds of games now and I truly believe this is the one where we finally get it done against Buffalo.
