Lions Get Easy Schedule and Prime Time Respect – Time to Panic About the Expectations

The Lions schedule looks surprisingly manageable with the easiest projected slate in the NFL, Vegas favorites to win the NFC North, and a big Thursday Night Football test at Buffalo in Week 2.

Schedule Season is Here and the Lions Actually Look Good on Paper

The full Lions schedule drops Thursday, but we’re already getting pieces of the puzzle. And for once, the early intel doesn’t make you want to hide under a blanket until February.

We know the opponents. We know they’re projected to have the easiest schedule in the NFL. We even know the Lions are Vegas favorites to win the NFC North again. Hell, FanDuel has them at +1700 to win the Super Bowl, which feels both exciting and terrifying in equal measure.

What We Know So Far

The international slate gets announced Wednesday, May 13, at 9 a.m. ET on Good Morning Football, but we already leaked that the Lions are playing in Germany on November 15th. The opponent is still a mystery, though it’ll be someone from their already-known list.

Speaking of that list, here’s who Detroit faces in 2026: NFC North twice, NFC South, AFC East, and three last-place teams from 2025 after finishing fourth in their division. The home and away split breaks down like this:

Home games: Bears, Packers, Vikings, Patriots, Saints, Giants, Jets, Buccaneers, and Titans

Road games: Bears, Packers, Vikings, Cardinals, Falcons, Bills, Panthers, and Dolphins

The Big Leak

Lions at Bills on Thursday Night Football, Week 2, September 17th. Prime Video, 8:15 PM. This feels like exactly the kind of game that either announces Detroit as a serious contender or reminds us why we can’t have nice things.

Buffalo in primetime, early in the season, with national expectations already building. No pressure at all.

Reading the Tea Leaves

Rod Wood already said the Lions are “unlikely” to get a bye week after their Germany game, which tracks with this franchise’s luck. Play overseas at 9:30 AM Eastern time, then come back and grind through the rest of the season without a proper break.

But here’s the thing that keeps nagging at me: this schedule really does look manageable on paper. The AFC East has question marks. The NFC South is inconsistent. Even playing last-place teams should mean easier matchups, though we all know how that usually works out for Detroit.

The Reality Check

Vegas likes the Lions. The schedule looks soft. The roster is loaded. Everything is setting up perfectly, which means I’m already bracing for the inevitable letdown because that’s what decades of Lions fandom does to your brain.

The full schedule release is Thursday, and we’ll keep tracking every leak and rumor until then. Because if there’s one thing Lions fans are good at, it’s overanalyzing schedule releases like they’re biblical prophecy.

So what do you think? Is this finally the year the schedule breaks our way, or are we just setting ourselves up for more creative disappointment? Drop your take below.

I love the energy around this team right now and honestly the schedule does look way more favorable than what we usually get. With Campbell and Holmes running things, I actually feel like this team can take advantage of the easier matchups instead of finding creative ways to lose. That Bills game in primetime is gonna be huge but I’m not scared of it like I would’ve been a few years ago.

Look, I want to believe this is different but the Lions have a way of making my stomach hurt right when things look promising. The schedule looks good on paper, sure, but we’ve said that before and watched it fall apart in real time. Let’s see how they actually perform before we start coronating them again.

Man, I’ve been through enough seasons to know that a soft schedule on paper doesn’t mean squat if the team doesn’t execute. But I’ll say this – the way Campbell and Holmes have built this roster is different from anything I’ve seen in decades. They actually look like they know what they’re doing, which is wild to say as a Lions fan.
