Most Anticipated Matchup of the Season
The schedule is out. The arguments have begun. And after sitting through what felt like the longest offseason in franchise history, we finally have something concrete to circle on our calendars and get unreasonably excited about.
Our staff took a hard look at the Lions’ 2026 slate and picked the games that have us most hyped. The results? Well, let’s just say Buffalo is about to get tired of hearing from Detroit fans.
The Revenge Tour Starts in Western New York
Four of our six writers landed on the same game: Week 2 at Buffalo Bills. And honestly, it makes perfect sense.
The Bills have owned this Lions team under Dan Campbell. Twice they’ve walked into our house and walked out winners, including that gut punch in 2024 where Josh Allen basically single-handedly beat us while our roster fell apart around us. The last time Detroit beat Buffalo? You probably weren’t old enough to drink yet.
But here’s the thing about revenge games in primetime. They hit different when you’re actually good enough to get revenge.
This isn’t just another early-season test. It’s a Thursday Night Football showcase at the opening of Highmark Stadium. The whole league will be watching. And if the Lions can finally solve the Josh Allen riddle on national television while spoiling Buffalo’s stadium debut, it would announce this team’s arrival in a way that even the doubters would have to respect.
One writer compared it to a similar primetime AFC victory, when the Lions finally got over the hump against an AFC powerhouse that previously had their number. That feels about right. Some demons need to be exorcised under the brightest lights possible.
Division Games Still Matter Most
Not everyone is looking outside the NFC North for their most anticipated matchup, though.
Week 7 against Green Bay drew one vote, and for good reason. Getting swept by the Packers last season stung like hell, and Ford Field is going to be absolutely electric for that first divisional game on national television. Nothing says “we’re back” quite like beating Green Bay in front of everyone.
Then there’s Thanksgiving against Chicago. The Bears are feeling themselves as the defending NFC North champs, and rightfully so. But Thanksgiving belongs to Detroit, and it’s time to remind the whole world who actually runs this division.
The Wild Card Pick
One writer went completely off script and chose Week 9 at Miami, calling it a test of their fandom. Apparently the Dolphins signed Malik Willis, which has led to some baffling decisions that could bode well for Detroit’s chances.
Look, every game matters when you’re trying to get back to the playoffs. But some games matter more than others, and some games just feel bigger. Whether it’s revenge against Buffalo, division pride against Green Bay and Chicago, or whatever chaos Miami has cooking, this schedule is loaded with opportunities to make statements.
The only question now is whether this team is ready to back up all the offseason optimism when the lights come on.
Which game has you most fired up? Are we sleeping on any matchups, or is Buffalo really the obvious choice for maximum chaos potential? Drop your take below.
