Jared Goff Already Has Super Bowl Numbers – So Why Are We Still Making Excuses?

Jared Goff's stats already match or exceed the average Super Bowl-winning quarterback numbers, proving he's exactly what the Lions need to win it all.

The Blueprint Is Already Here

Here’s the thing about Jared Goff and Super Bowl quarterbacks. Everyone wants to make it complicated. Everyone wants to find reasons why he can’t get it done. But when you actually look at the numbers from the last eight Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks, something becomes crystal clear: Goff is already doing exactly what he needs to do.

We ran the math on Brady, Mahomes, Stafford, Hurts, and Darnold. Averaged out their Super Bowl-winning seasons. And guess what? The blueprint isn’t some mythical standard that requires superhuman abilities or rocket arm talent.

Detroit Lions Gear

It’s just good, steady quarterback play. Which is exactly what Goff has been giving Detroit.

The Numbers Don’t Lie

To win a Super Bowl, here’s what the average quarterback needs: 4,541 passing yards, 32 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 66.5% completion rate, 100.1 passer rating, 5 fumbles, and 26 sacks taken. That’s it. That’s the bar.

Now look at what Goff did in 2025 with a beat-up offensive line and an offensive coordinator who didn’t work out. He threw for 4,564 yards and 34 touchdowns. His completion percentage was 68%. His passer rating was 105.5. He threw just 8 interceptions.

In every meaningful category except sacks taken, Goff either matched or exceeded the Super Bowl average. And yes, those 38 sacks were ugly, but 22 of them came in just five games. The rest of the year wasn’t nearly as bad.

But What About Mobility?

Here comes the predictable pushback: Goff can’t run. He’s not mobile. He can’t extend plays like Mahomes.

Fine. Fair point. The average Super Bowl quarterback runs for 277 yards and three touchdowns. Goff managed 45 yards in 2025. But here’s the thing those critics are missing: most of that rushing average comes from Mahomes being Mahomes, with a tiny bit from Darnold.

Brady and Stafford had even fewer rushing yards than Goff in their Super Bowl-winning seasons. You know what they had instead? Great offensive lines, good coaching, and the ability to process the game quickly enough to avoid unnecessary hits.

Goff has the processing part down. The sack numbers should improve with better protection and play calling.

Just Be Jared Goff

At the end of the day, this isn’t about transforming Goff into something he’s not. It’s about letting him be exactly what he’s been: a damn good quarterback who takes care of the football and makes the right decisions.

The Lions don’t need Goff to suddenly become Patrick Mahomes. They just need him to keep being Jared Goff. Because as it turns out, Jared Goff is already playing at a Super Bowl-winning level.

The blueprint was never the problem. It was everything else around him. And the front office has been addressing those problems one move at a time.

So here’s a wild thought: maybe the quarterback isn’t what’s holding this team back. Maybe he’s exactly what they need. Are we finally ready to admit Goff is good enough, or are we still finding new ways to move the goalposts? Let me know in the comments.
