Look, after the way the 2025 season ended, we all know the drill. The young guys have to step up or we’re looking at another year of “what could have been” conversations in January. The pressure is real, and it starts with this 2026 rookie class.
Blake Miller is the headliner here, and honestly, he better be. You don’t spend a first-round pick on an offensive tackle and then cross your fingers. The kid comes from Clemson with serious experience, but there’s Larry Borom splitting first-team reps with him right out of the gate. That should tell you something about how Dan Campbell operates. Nobody gets handed anything in Allen Park.
The Miller Situation Gets Interesting
Here’s the thing about Miller that has me cautiously optimistic. The worst-case scenario isn’t even that bad. Maybe he doesn’t start Week 1, which would be disappointing but not catastrophic. Campbell has shown he’ll give jobs to whoever earns them, and that’s exactly the kind of accountability this franchise needed for decades.
But the ceiling? That’s where it gets fun. Could a rookie offensive tackle actually make a run at Pro Bowl recognition? It’s rare as hell, but Miller has the pedigree and the experience to pull it off. The question is whether voters will notice, because let’s be honest, offensive linemen get judged on reputation more than single-season performance.
Beyond the Big Names
Miller isn’t the only story here. This entire 2026 draft class needs to contribute if we’re going to bounce back from that frustrating 2025 season. The expectations are real because Brad Holmes has earned the right to have his picks scrutinized at this level.
Every Lions fan knows the drill by now. We’ve seen promising draft classes before. We’ve also seen them flame out spectacularly. The difference is Holmes has built enough trust that when he makes a pick, you assume there’s a plan behind it.
The reality is simple: this rookie class doesn’t need to be perfect, but they damn sure need to be productive. We’re not asking for miracles, just solid contributions from guys who were drafted to fill specific roles.
