Frank Ragnow Finally Tells His Side of the Story
Frank Ragnow broke his silence this week, and honestly, it’s about damn time. The former All-Pro center sat down at his annual Rags Remembered skeet shoot outing and finally explained what the hell happened with his retirement saga that left Lions fans scratching their heads and the front office scrambling.
The short version? His body quit on him when his mind wasn’t ready to let go.

Ragnow’s retirement ahead of the 2025 season blindsided everyone, including Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell, who hadn’t exactly planned their offseason around losing their anchor at center. Turns out there’s a good reason for that.
“To shoot it to you straight, I was trying to will myself to play, but my body was telling me otherwise,” Ragnow said. “I did not plan on retiring in the middle of the summer, believe it or not.”

“I don’t know why they leaked it, but that’s on them,” he said, before quickly pivoting to praise for the people in the building. “There’s so many great people in that facility and on that team, and I’ve got nothing but love and respect.”
