Frank Ragnow Says This Detroit-Area Lake is One of the World’s Best Fishing Spots

Former Lions center Frank Ragnow reveals Lake St. Clair as Michigan's best fishing spot, calling it one of the most premier fishing waters in the world that Detroit locals underestimate.

Former Lions Center Frank Ragnow Drops His Pick for Michigan’s Best Fishing Spot

Frank Ragnow has officially hung up the cleats, but the man still knows a thing or two about what’s good in Michigan. At his fourth annual Rags Remembered skeet shoot event, the former Lions center shared his go-to fishing recommendation, and honestly, it might surprise some people how close to home it is.

When asked about the best place to fish in Michigan, Ragnow didn’t hesitate. Lake St. Clair got the nod, and he made it sound like Detroit’s best-kept secret that somehow isn’t actually secret.

Lake St. Clair Gets the Ragnow Seal of Approval

“Lake St. Clair, in general, is one of the best places, like, they hold multiple fishing tournaments every year. It’s one of the most premier fishing waters in the world,” Ragnow said. “I feel like a lot of people in Detroit don’t even understand how good of a fishery it is. So, and there’s multiple public accesses and docks and stuff to fish. It’s a really, really cool spot.”

When a guy who spent years anchoring the Lions offensive line tells you to check out a fishing spot, you listen. Lake St. Clair isn’t just some random patch of water. It’s legit one of the best fisheries in the country, especially if you’re chasing smallmouth bass.

The water’s relatively shallow, warms up quick, and just produces. You can be out there at sunrise with the Detroit skyline in the distance, and it feels like one of those spots that somehow still flies under the radar nationally. Whether you’re casting for bass, chasing perch, or just trying to clear your head, it’s got that perfect mix of peace and possibility.

According to Ragnow, you’re not limited to just bass and perch either. Musky, walleye, northern pike, and more are all in play. So if you’re looking to wet a line and haven’t hit Lake St. Clair yet, now you know where a former NFL center would go.

Is Ragnow’s fishing advice as solid as his pass protection used to be, or are we about to get skunked following his recommendations? Let us know in the comments below.
