Terrion Arnold Running Out of Chances: Dan Campbell Just Put the First-Round Pick on Notice

Terrion Arnold is running with the second team at minicamp and Dan Campbell made it clear the first-round pick has to earn his starting job back or lose it to hungrier corners.

Nobody Is Safe

Dan Campbell told us not to read too much into the practice field splits. Starters on one field, backups and roster bubble guys on the other. Just organizational stuff, he said. Cool.

Except Terrion Arnold has been on the wrong field.

The guy the Lions traded up to take 24th in the 2024 NFL Draft is working with the second team at mandatory minicamp. And when Campbell was asked about it, he did not sugarcoat it.

Campbell’s Message Was Clear

“So the most important thing for him is just making sure that he’s healthy,” Campbell said. “That’s step one, the rehab, which he’s done a good job with. He’s getting better. We feel good about where he’s at in that regard, but that’s the most important thing, because he’s not full speed right now. I mean, he can at least, he’s not in contact, he’s moving pretty good, all that stuff. But, and so, just make sure that you stay on top of that, you’re ready to go for training camp, and then it’s on. It’s just about competing. We got a lot of good guys in that room, and he knows this. He’s got to go earn it now.”

Translation: get healthy, show up ready, and then fight for your job. Because it is not waiting for you.

Arnold’s Detroit Story So Far

Arnold’s time in Honolulu Blue has been uneven at best. Early in his rookie season, the penalties were a problem. The kind of back-breaking flags that make you wonder if a first-round corner can actually be trusted. Then he cleaned it up. He started playing better down the stretch.

Then the 2025 season started rough. Really rough. But just when it looked like he was finding his footing again, he got hurt and missed the rest of the season.

Now here we are in 2026. He is coming off an injury. He is working with the second team. And he has a room full of hungry corners who smell opportunity.

The Competition Is Real

Rock Ya-Sin is back. Khalil Dorsey is still here. Keith Abney is in the mix. Ennis Rakestraw and Nick Whiteside are in the mix too. None of them are going to hand Arnold anything.

This is not a depth chart issue. This is a make or break year.

Campbell runs a meritocracy. You earn your spot or you lose it. That is how it works in Allen Park now. And if Arnold cannot stay healthy and compete his way back onto the first team, someone else will gladly take that job.

Blood in the Water

This is just another reminder that almost nobody is safe on this roster. Campbell and Holmes have built a culture where competition is the baseline expectation. If you are not earning your spot every single day, you are vulnerable.

Arnold has the talent. But talent alone does not cut it here. Not anymore. Not with this coaching staff. Not with this front office.

He has until training camp to get right. After that, it is on.

Is Arnold about to lose his starting job to a guy making a fraction of his salary, or is this just Campbell doing what Campbell does? Sound off below.
