Going Perfect at Ford Field? We Haven’t Dared Dream This Big in Decades
The Lions are heading to Germany to play the Patriots, which means we finally know who they’re actually hosting at Ford Field in 2026. And for the first time in a very long time, this home slate looks like something we can actually get excited about without immediately bracing for disappointment.
Eight home games. Packers, Bears, Vikings, Saints, Giants, Jets, Buccaneers, Titans. That’s it. That’s the list.
Look, I’m not saying we’re going undefeated at home. I’ve been a Lions fan too long to say anything that bold out loud. But damn if this isn’t the most winnable home schedule we’ve seen in years.
The Case for Something Special
The toughest opponent by far was supposed to be the AFC champions. Now they’re playing overseas, which means Ford Field dodged the biggest bullet on the schedule. What’s left are some tough matchups, sure, but nothing that should make you want to hide under a blanket.
The Packers swept us last year, so they’re the obvious threat. Green Bay always finds a way to ruin our good times. The Bears haven’t beaten us since the 2023 season, but division games are division games. The Bucs have talent, but we’ve won three of the last four against Tampa Bay.
After that? The Giants have a nasty defensive line but not much else. The Saints loaded up on defense this offseason but their offense is still a mess. The Jets might be sneaky good, but they’re young and still figuring it out. The Titans are rebuilding. The Vikings might be rebuilding as well.
Ford Field Has Always Been Our Sanctuary
Here’s the thing about this team under Dan Campbell. They’re just better indoors. Always have been. Ford Field turns into something special when this crowd gets going, and we’ve seen what happens when the Lions feed off that energy.
The Lions already have the easiest strength of schedule in the NFL according to projected win totals. But this home slate is where they can really do some damage. Eight games where the dome is rocking, where Jared Goff doesn’t have to deal with weather, where the pass rush can pin their ears back and hunt.
We haven’t gone undefeated at home since 1991. That was 35 years ago. Most of you reading this weren’t even born yet. I was barely old enough to understand what I was watching, but I remember thinking this Lions thing was going to be easy.
How wrong I was about everything.
But this feels different. This roster was built to win games like these. Campbell has this team believing they belong on the same field as anybody. The culture is different. The expectation is different. Maybe, just maybe, the results can be different too.
Am I setting myself up for heartbreak by even thinking about a perfect home record? Probably. But after decades of expecting the worst, maybe it’s time to expect something better.
Eight home games. All winnable. All in that beautiful dome on Ford Field. Think we can actually pull off something special, or are we just setting ourselves up for the most Lions way possible to blow it? Sound off below.
