Miller’s In, But The Real Work Starts Now
The first round is done. Blake Miller is officially a Lion, and we’ve got our new starting right tackle locked down. But here’s the thing about drafts – the first round gets all the spotlight, but Day 2 is where teams actually get built.
And damn if there aren’t still some serious players sitting there waiting to hear their names called.
Edge Rush Still Haunts This Roster
You know what keeps Dan Campbell up at night? The same thing that should keep every Lions fan tossing and turning. We still need someone who can consistently get after the quarterback.
Sure, we’ve made moves. We’ve talked about it. But talk doesn’t sack quarterbacks twice a year, does it?
The good news? There are still edge rushers on this board who could walk into Allen Park and immediately make life miserable for opposing offensive coordinators. The kind of players who make you forget about all those years of watching quarterbacks stand in clean pockets like they were reading the Sunday paper.
Day 2 is Where Championships Get Built
Look, Miller was the right call in round one. Protecting our franchise quarterback is job number one, and you don’t do that with prayers and duct tape on the right side.
But now comes the real test. Can Brad Holmes find those impact players who are still available? The guys who fell because of combine numbers or injury concerns or whatever arbitrary reason draft analysts cook up?
This Lions team is close. Painfully close. The kind of close that makes you believe in things you swore you’d never believe in again. But close doesn’t hang banners at Ford Field.
The Board is Still Loaded
Here’s what should have every Lions fan cautiously optimistic – there’s still legitimate talent available. Players who can step in immediately and contribute to what we’re building in Honolulu Blue.
The edge rush need is obvious, but it’s not the only hole that needs filling. Good thing the board hasn’t been picked clean yet.
Holmes has shown he can find value in unexpected places. Now we get to see if he can do it again when the lights are brightest and the expectations are through the roof.
Think the Lions can still find their missing pieces on Day 2, or are we about to watch another draft slip through our fingers when we’re this damn close? Let me know what you’re seeing below.
