Holmes is About to Draft Someone You’ve Never Heard Of and Lions Fans Will Absolutely Lose It

Brad Holmes is about to shock Lions fans again with another best player available pick that nobody sees coming but will prove brilliant by September.

Four Final Predictions for the Lions Draft: Expect the Unexpected

The 2026 NFL Draft is almost here, and if you know anything about how Brad Holmes operates, you know he’s about to do something that will have half of Lions Twitter losing their minds. Good.

This front office has earned the right to make moves that don’t fit the conventional wisdom. They’ve also earned the right to make us sweat about it until September when we realize they were right all along.

Best Player Available, Feelings Be Damned

The Lions are going to go all in on best player available, and it’s going to have some people in their feelings. You know what that means, right?

We’re going to draft another defensive back when everyone wants a pass rusher. Or we’re going to take an offensive lineman when the fanbase is screaming for a linebacker. And yes, I know what you’re thinking. You’ve seen this movie before.

But here’s the thing about Holmes and Dan Campbell. They don’t care about your mock draft. They don’t care about your depth chart concerns. They care about finding players who can help this team win football games, and sometimes that means taking the best talent on the board even if it doesn’t fill an obvious hole.

The Method Behind the Madness

This approach has worked out pretty damn well so far. Remember when we took Jameson Williams and everyone wondered about the injury? Remember when we traded up for Brian Branch and half the fanbase had never heard of him?

Yeah, those worked out just fine.

The Lions have built a culture where they can develop talent regardless of position. When you have that kind of infrastructure, you can afford to take risks on the best player available instead of reaching for need.

It’s going to be uncomfortable watching it happen in real time. It always is. But this front office has proven they see things the rest of us don’t, and they’re usually right about it.

Ready to watch Holmes and Campbell make moves that have you questioning everything until Week 1 proves them right again? Drop your boldest draft prediction below.

This is exactly why I’m riding with Holmes and Campbell all the way. They’ve shown they understand talent evaluation better than all of us sitting at home with our fantasy football brains on. I’ll trust the process even when it looks weird at first.

Look, I want to believe this works out every time, but my heart can’t take another draft day gut punch. The Brian Branch thing is fresh enough that I remember how stressed I was. Prove it to me on the field before I’m ready to just accept whatever they do.

I’ve been through enough draft days with this organization to know when a front office actually has their act together, and this one does. Back in the day we used to pray for competence at the top. Now we got it and some folks still wanna complain.
