Holmes and His Draft Day Phone Calls
Here we go again. The rumor mill is spinning, and apparently Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes has been burning up the phone lines lately. Word is getting out that there’s been “a lot of smoke” around the idea of the Lions making a first-round trade.
And yes, I know what you’re thinking. Of course Holmes is working the phones. The man treats draft day like it’s the New York Stock Exchange, and frankly, that’s exactly what we need from someone running this franchise after decades of, well, not that.
The Holmes Track Record
If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Brad Holmes since he took over in Allen Park, it’s that this guy genuinely loves to wheel and deal when draft weekend rolls around. He’s not the type to sit there with his card already filled out, waiting for his turn like we’re playing fantasy football with our buddies.
The man moves. He trades. He makes things happen. After watching this organization sleepwalk through draft after draft for years, having a GM who actually works the room is refreshing as hell.

Now, before we all start mapping out which player Holmes is targeting or what he’s willing to give up, let’s pump the brakes. “A lot of smoke” and “on the phone a lot lately” doesn’t exactly constitute breaking news. NFL executives talk to each other all the time. Shocking, I know.
But the fact that this intel is making its way to reporters suggests something might actually be brewing. Holmes has shown he’s not afraid to be aggressive when he sees an opportunity, and that’s exactly the kind of mentality this franchise needed.
Whether he’s looking to move up, trade back, or pull off something completely sideways, at least we know our guy isn’t just sitting there hoping good players fall into his lap. Been there, done that, bought the 0-16 t-shirt.
