Kyle Brandt Just Said What We’re All Thinking About Jahmyr Gibbs
Look, we’re barely into offseason workouts and already Good Morning Football’s Kyle Brandt is out here making the kind of bold prediction that would have gotten you laughed out of Allen Park just a few years ago. He thinks Jahmyr Gibbs is going to win Offensive Player of the Year in 2026.
“I think Jahmyr Gibbs is going to be Offensive Player of the Year this year. I think he is going — nuclear, stratosphere. In terms of an investment in a player, there is no one I’m all in on more than number 0 for the Detroit Lions,” Brandt said on the show Monday.
Now here’s where it gets interesting. Brandt acknowledged what we all know about the Sonic and Knuckles backfield that was, but he compared Gibbs stepping into the spotlight to Beyoncé leaving Destiny’s Child. That’s either brilliant or completely unhinged, and honestly, I’m here for both possibilities.
Solo Artist Time
“I love David Montgomery, but he gone. Jahmyr Gibbs is one the true guys who can be a solo artist and I’m talking like … Offensive Player of the Year-level stuff,” Brandt continued.
The thing is, he’s not wrong about the setup. With Montgomery no longer in Detroit, Gibbs doesn’t have to share carries with anyone who can match his explosiveness. This is Gibbs’ backfield now.
And yes, I know what you’re thinking. We’ve been hurt before. We’ve watched this franchise hype up players who looked like superstars right up until they didn’t. But this feels different, and not just because we’re wearing our Honolulu Blue colored glasses.
The Dan Campbell Effect
Brandt also dropped some truth about where this franchise sits right now, and it’s the kind of perspective that hits different when you’ve lived through the real dark years.
“It speaks to Dan Campbell that we’re sitting here talking about the Detroit Lions going 9-8 last year as this huge disappointment,” he said. “I mean, there were times when Lions fans would’ve cut off a finger to win nine games.”
Damn right we would have. Hell, there were seasons where nine wins would have felt like a championship parade down Woodward Avenue. The fact that 9-8 feels disappointing now tells you everything about what Campbell and Brad Holmes have built here.
Speaking of Detroit as a whole, Brandt believes the Lions are an imperfect team with a perfect running back. That might be the most accurate scouting report you’ll hear all offseason. We’ve got holes to fill and questions to answer, but Gibbs? That man is a walking highlight reel waiting to happen.
So is Brandt right about the OPOY prediction, or is this just another case of national media getting a little too excited about our shiny toys? Sound off below and tell us if you think Gibbs is ready to go nuclear this season.
