Lions 2026 Jersey Numbers Drop and Suddenly We Actually Care About Our Depth Chart

The Lions dropped their jersey number assignments with free agent additions like Teddy Bridgewater getting number 5 and nine players switching numbers in moves that actually make sense for once.

The Lions just dropped their jersey number assignments for the 2026 season, and honestly, this is the kind of offseason housekeeping that used to feel meaningless back when we were worried about whether our starting quarterback could complete a forward pass.

Now? It feels different. These numbers matter because the players wearing them might actually matter.

Detroit Lions Gear

New Numbers for New Faces

Let’s start with the free agent haul. Teddy Bridgewater snagged number 5, which feels right for a veteran backup who’s here to be exactly what he’s always been. Steady. Reliable. The kind of insurance policy this franchise has never really bothered with before Brad Holmes showed up.

Isiah Pacheco gets number 10, trading in his Kansas City digits for something that should look pretty good in Honolulu Blue. The running back addition gives the Lions another proven option in the backfield.

Greg Dortch takes number 8, Roger McCreary gets 21, and Tyler Conklin slides into 83. These aren’t household names, but they’re the kind of depth signings that actually make sense. Remember when our free agent strategy was “sign whoever is cheapest and hope for the best”? Yeah, this isn’t that.

Musical Chairs Time

Nine players decided to switch numbers, and some of these moves are interesting. Ennis Rakestraw jumped from 9 to 2, which is a pretty solid upgrade for a corner. Dan Jackson went from 28 to 17, and Levi Onwuzurike finally ditched 78 for 95.

The defensive line shuffle is the most notable here. Tyler Lacy moved from 78 to 93, Onwuzurike landed on 95, and Myles Adams grabbed 96. It’s like watching guys finally get the numbers they actually wanted instead of whatever was left over.

Jackson Meeks switching from 83 to 13 caught my attention too. Wide receivers don’t usually give up numbers in the 80s unless they have a good reason.

What We’re Still Waiting For

The rookie numbers are still TBA, which makes sense since the Lions canceled their rookie minicamp this year. The 2026 draft class will have to wait a bit longer to find out what digits they’ll be wearing at Ford Field.

And yes, I know what you’re thinking. Jersey numbers are just jersey numbers. But damn if it doesn’t feel good to be talking about roster moves that actually make sense instead of wondering which undrafted free agent from Eastern Michigan is going to start at left tackle.

Are these the jersey numbers that finally bring a championship to Detroit, or are we just getting excited about laundry? Drop your take below.

This is what having a real front office looks like. Teddy Bridgewater as a backup, actual depth moves that make sense, players getting the numbers they want instead of whatever’s left over – that’s the kind of stuff that shows we’re finally being run right. I’m stoked just thinking about having legitimate depth for once.

Look, I like the moves on paper, but jersey numbers don’t win games. Pacheco is solid, Dortch is solid, but until I see these guys actually deliver on Sundays I’m not gonna lose my mind over jersey assignments. Holmes knows what he’s doing, just gotta see it play out.

Man, you know what’s wild? Back in the day we wouldn’t even know who half these guys were or care what number they wore because the whole organization was a mess. Now we’re actually excited about depth signings because we trust the people making the decisions. That’s a hell of a thing.

Pacheco in Honolulu Blue is gonna look fire, no cap. This is the kind of offseason that gets me hyped. We’re building something real here and it shows in every little detail.
