Lions Legends Reunion at Slay’s Retirement Party Proves Detroit Built Different

Former Lions cornerback Darius Slay's retirement party turned into a Ford Field reunion with Jim Caldwell, Glover Quin, Quandre Diggs, and other Detroit alumni showing the lasting bond of Lions culture.

Ford Field Reunion: Old Lions Get Together for Darius Slay’s Retirement Party

Earlier this offseason, former Lions cornerback Darius Slay hung up the cleats after 13 years. While he spent his final six seasons bouncing around the league, we all know where his best years happened. Right here in Detroit, wearing Honolulu Blue.

This weekend, Slay threw himself a retirement party down in Georgia. And based on the Instagram posts flooding the timeline, it looked more like a Lions alumni reunion than anything else.

Former safety Glover Quin documented the whole thing, posting photos with Slay alongside some familiar faces: former head coach Jim Caldwell, safety Quandre Diggs, and receiver Jamal Agnew. Just a bunch of guys who understood what it meant to suit up at Ford Field.

Where Are They Now?

Caldwell spent the last three seasons as a senior assistant with Carolina but isn’t currently employed by an NFL team. The man who got us to the playoffs twice deserves better than that, frankly.

Diggs returned to the Seahawks late last year as a reserve during their Super Bowl run. He is not on an NFL roster right now. Agnew played 11 games with Atlanta last year but hasn’t signed anywhere for the 2026 season. As for Quin, he’s been retired since 2019 and now co-hosts “Bleav in Lions” with Trevor Thompson.

Former linebacker Stephen Tulloch was also there, which shouldn’t surprise anyone who remembers how that defense stuck together. Tulloch has been retired since 2017 and now owns Circle House Coffee, a cafe down in Fort Lauderdale. Good for him.

Dave Birkett talked to some local offensive line legends about expectations for this year’s unit. Always good to hear from the guys who know what it takes to protect quarterbacks in this city.

Frank Ragnow’s 4th annual “Skeet Shoot Showdown” is this Friday to support the Rags Remembered Foundation. Tickets are still available, and there’s signed Lions merchandise up for auction. The man anchors our offensive line and gives back to the community. That’s your franchise center right there.

ESPN thinks we’re the top worst-to-first candidate for the 2026 season, giving us a 38.2 percent chance to win the NFC North. Honestly? After watching this team for decades, those odds feel about right. We know what we’re capable of when everything clicks.

Isaac TeSlaa is still making ridiculous one-handed catches at OTAs, because apparently that’s just what he does now. Some guys are born to catch footballs in ways that make you shake your head.

Justin Rogers had a solid conversation with Derrick Barnes about his 2025 season and expectations for this year. The kind of honest discussion that shows this team isn’t making excuses, just getting better.

Nothing beats seeing former Lions still showing love for each other years later. Is this what having a real culture looks like, or are we just still surprised when former players actually want to hang out? Drop your thoughts below.
