The Schedule is Here, and We’ve Got Thoughts
It’s official. The Lions’ schedule dropped, and now we get to do that thing where we pretend we know how seventeen games are going to play out months before they happen. Look, nobody asked for our predictions, but you’re getting them anyway. Here’s how this thing shakes out.
Week 1: Saints Come to Ford Field
Dan Campbell versus his former team. The Saints are coming to Detroit, and honestly, they feel like a team in transition. No Cameron Jordan on defense anymore. Questions all over that offense.
This feels like the kind of opener the Lions should handle at home. They better, anyway.
Record: 1-0
Week 2: Thursday Night in Buffalo’s New Stadium
Here we go. The Lions and Bills have a history of shootout losses that still make your stomach hurt if you think about them too long. But this is the first time Detroit gets to face Buffalo at full strength with this defense.
Buffalo’s new stadium will be electric for their first home game. That matters. But this Lions team is built different than the ones that used to fold in moments like this.
Record: 2-0
Week 3: Aaron Glenn Returns to Allen Park
The Jets with Aaron Glenn coming back to Detroit. That’s going to be emotional. Glenn built something special here before taking the Jets job, and you know Ford Field is going to give him the respect he deserves.
The Jets had a solid offseason and should be tougher than people think. But the Lions have more established talent right now, and that matters early in the season.
Record: 3-0
Week 4: Sunday Night in Carolina
This Panthers team reminds you of those early Dan Campbell Lions squads. Young, scrappy, heading in the right direction. They’ve got that energy that can bite you if you’re not careful.
Primetime road games are tricky. Carolina’s building will be loud, and they’ve got just enough talent to pull an upset that gets everyone talking.
Record: 3-1
Week 5: Arizona Cardinals
Drew Petzing faces his old team in Arizona. The Cardinals look like they’re tanking, which means this should be straightforward. Should be.
You know how this goes with the Lions. The games that look easy on paper are the ones that make you question everything.
Record: 4-1
Week 6: Bye Week Blues
An early bye week. Great. Just what a team that’s dealt with injury issues needs. At least the schedule starts relatively manageable before things get tougher down the stretch.
Week 7: Packers at Ford Field
First NFC North battle of the season. The Lions get the Packers at home, which is always a good thing when it comes to this rivalry.
Record: 5-1
Week 8: Back-to-Back Division Games
Vikings come to town for the second straight NFC North matchup at Ford Field. That’s a lot of division football in a short span.
Brian Flores knows how to game plan, and the Vikings always find ways to make things difficult. The Lions can’t win them all, and this feels like a spot where they might stumble.
Record: 5-2
Week 9: Miami Road Trip
The Dolphins are rebuilding with Malik Willis at quarterback. They’ve got De’Von Achane, but they’ve basically gutted their defense. This should be manageable for a Lions team that’s finding its rhythm.
Record: 6-2
Week 10: Germany Calling
Lions versus the Patriots on the international stage. It’s not a home game technically, but Lions fans travel, and Amon-Ra St. Brown is going to have half of Germany cheering for him.
Big stage, but the Lions have earned the right to be confident in games like this.
Record: 7-2
Week 11: Buccaneers and Alex Anzalone
The Lions have played Tampa Bay a ton recently. This is the fifth matchup since the 2023 season. Detroit has won three of the four previous meetings, but Alex Anzalone is going to be motivated in his return to Ford Field.
Revenge games are real, and Anzalone knows this defense better than anyone.
Record: 7-3
Week 12: Thanksgiving Against Chicago
Dan Campbell versus Ben Johnson on Thanksgiving. Round two of this matchup, and it’s going to matter for playoff positioning by this point in the season.
The Lions took care of business against Johnson’s Bears the first time. They’ll do it again at Ford Field on Turkey Day.
Record: 8-3
Week 13: Atlanta Road Test
Jahmyr Gibbs versus Bijan Robinson. Two running backs who should be among the highest paid at their position squaring off. Fantasy football gold, but beyond Robinson, the Falcons are hard to trust.
Record: 9-3
Week 14: Trap Game Special
Every season has that one game where a good team gets caught sleeping by a bad team. The Titans feel like that opponent for Detroit. Young, hungry, and exactly the type of team that can sneak up on you.
This is how the NFL works. The Lions get caught looking ahead, and Tennessee steals one.
Record: 9-4
Week 15: Sunday Night in Minnesota
Primetime road trip to face the Vikings again, and this game is going to matter for NFC North positioning. The Vikings are in a weird place right now, and the Lions should be able to take advantage.
Record: 10-4
Week 16: Monday Night Versus New York
The Giants have a defensive line that’s going to test every offensive line they face. But beyond that pass rush, this Giants team has more questions than answers, especially on offense.
The Lions are deeper and likely playing for something bigger by this point in December.
Record: 11-4
Week 17: Cold Weather in Chicago
Late December in Chicago means cold weather and possibly snow. The Lions haven’t exactly been at their best in these conditions historically, and the Bears know how to play in it.
Home field advantage matters, especially when the weather gets nasty.
Record: 11-5
Week 18: Packers Finale
Season finale against Green Bay at Ford Field. If the division is still up for grabs, this is going to be everything you want in a Week 18 matchup. The Lions grab their third NFC North title under Dan Campbell.
Record: 12-5
So there you have it. Twelve wins, a division title, and hopefully no late-season collapse that makes us all remember why we

This is the kind of schedule breakdown that gets me hyped because we finally have a team and coaching staff that can actually execute on paper instead of just talking about it. The way this article breaks down each opponent with real nuance instead of just saying we should win everything tells me whoever wrote this gets what we’re building. Let’s go get that division title.
I like the optimism here, but you got those three heartbreak games picking themselves and I’m already nervous about which ones are actually gonna sting. The Titans trap game hit way too close to home for me, but I guess that’s football. Hope the front office keeps this roster healthy because injuries are what derail these kinds of runs.
Man, it’s wild to sit here and actually feel confident predicting wins for this team instead of just hoping. Campbell and Holmes have done something real different compared to what we’ve had to sit through over the years, and that shows up in how you can actually see a path to these kinds of records. The division title part would be something special.
