Detroit’s Biggest Star? It’s Not Who You Think
The Pistons are making a playoff run and guess who’s been spotted courtside? Half the damn Lions roster. Jared Goff, Jahmyr Gibbs, Aidan Hutchinson, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Jameson Williams have all been caught on camera supporting their Motor City brothers. And honestly? It’s one of those rare times where Detroit sports feels like a real family instead of a collection of teams that happen to share the same cursed zip code.
But seeing all these Lions players pop up on NBA social media posts got me thinking. Who exactly is the biggest household name on this roster? Not the best player necessarily, but the guy a casual fan in Phoenix or Charlotte would actually recognize.
My vote goes to Jahmyr Gibbs. The man has turned into a legitimate offensive weapon that makes defensive coordinators lose sleep. He’s got that rare combination of speed and vision that translates to highlight reels, and highlight reels translate to recognition.
But here’s what really separates Gibbs from the pack: the marketing game. This dude has deals with Jordan and Sony. When you’re getting checks from globally recognized brands like that, you’re not just a football player anymore. You’re a brand.
Sure, other players might have their own strengths and recognition. But Gibbs has that crossover appeal that makes casual fans stop scrolling when they see your face.
Gibbs has it. The question is whether he can keep building on it or if someone else is going to steal his thunder.
Am I completely wrong here or is Gibbs really our biggest star? Drop your take in the comments and tell me who you think casual fans actually know.

I think you’re onto something with Gibbs but I also think Goff has that quiet star power that’s growing. He’s got the whole analytical genius thing going on and casual fans are starting to recognize his name from national broadcasts. Either way, it’s wild that we actually have multiple guys people want to know about instead of just one shining light in the darkness.
Gibbs is nice and all but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Marketing deals are cool but they don’t mean much if the team doesn’t keep winning. I want to see him stay healthy and prove it over multiple seasons before we crown him as anything.
Man, the fact that we’re even having this conversation about which young star is our biggest name feels different. Back in my day we’d be lucky to have one recognizable name period. Campbell and Holmes have built something where multiple guys can be household names and that’s the real story here.
Gibbs is slick but honestly I think Aidan Hutchinson is going to blow past him in recognition within a year or two. Defensive guys don’t always get the highlight machine love but he’s got that charisma and college fame working for him.
