Lions Draft Rumors Are Getting Wild and Brad Holmes Is About to Break Our Hearts Again

Detroit Lions draft rumors are swirling around offensive tackle needs and potential trades up, but separating the real intel from pre-draft smoke screens is nearly impossible.

Detroit Lions Draft Rumors Are Flying, and Yes, I Know What You’re Thinking

The Lions have been playing their cards close to the vest heading into the 2026 draft, which honestly feels like progress for a franchise that used to telegraph every terrible decision from three states away. But now the rumors are starting to leak, and you know what that means. It’s lying season, baby.

Most of the chatter has centered around offensive tackle, which makes sense considering it’s about as obvious a need as you can have. When your quarterback gets hit more than a Detroit pothole in March, you tend to prioritize protection. But with so many different takes on this tackle class floating around, figuring out what’s real and what’s smoke is harder than finding parking at Ford Field.

The Latest Intel From Allen Park

Here’s what we know happened recently, assuming any of it actually means anything.

The Lions have been making calls about trading up, according to multiple reports. Because nothing says “Detroit Lions confidence” like trying to move up in a draft where everyone thinks we already have decent positioning. Then again, maybe Brad Holmes sees something the rest of us don’t.

Holmes had a Zoom call with UCF EDGE Malachi Lawrence and Michigan DT Rayshawn Benny. Meanwhile, the Lions apparently did not bring Georgia OT Monroe Freeling in for a top-30 visit, which either means nothing or everything depending on how deep you want to read these tea leaves.

Other teams are reportedly trying to trade ahead of Detroit, which tracks. Everyone wants to jump the Lions when they think we’re targeting something specific. It’s like the entire league learned from our Matt Millen era and decided to use our draft position against us.

There’s also buzz about teams expecting an early run on offensive linemen, and one report suggested Alabama OT Kadyn Proctor won’t make it past Detroit. Again, take all of this with about fifteen grains of salt.

Reading Between the Honolulu Blue Lines

Look, draft rumors this close to the actual event are about as reliable as Lions playoff predictions in July. Teams leak information for a reason, and that reason is usually to mess with other teams, not to helpfully inform fans about their actual plans.

The offensive tackle focus makes sense. We need help there, everyone knows it, and pretending otherwise would be like pretending the Ford family cares about our feelings. But whether that means trading up, staying put, or doing something completely unexpected remains to be seen.

This is the same front office that surprised everyone by taking Jameson Williams when we did, so maybe the real lesson here is that Holmes and company are going to do whatever they think is best regardless of what the rumor mill suggests.

Are these rumors worth anything or just the usual pre-draft nonsense designed to drive us all crazy? Drop your take in the comments below.
