Did Detroit Just Accidentally Block Aaron Glenn’s Plans?
Well, this is awkward. The Lions hosted Tyre West for a visit recently, which sounds perfectly normal until you realize the Jets also brought him in for a look.
And yes, I know what you’re thinking. Aaron Glenn, our former defensive coordinator who’s now running things in New York, might have had his eye on the same guy Detroit was courting.
Look, we’ve seen this movie before. Former Lions coaches leave Allen Park and suddenly they’re trying to poach every piece of talent they remember from their time here. It’s like watching your ex try to recreate your relationship with someone else, except with football players and million-dollar contracts.
The timing here is fascinating. Both teams hosting the same player for visits means somebody’s going home empty-handed. Given our recent history of letting good coordinators walk out the door only to watch them succeed elsewhere, it would be peak Lions irony if we accidentally cockblocked Glenn’s first big free agency move.
Then again, maybe Detroit finally learned something about keeping talent in-house, even if it’s just to spite the guy who used to draw up our defensive game plans. Sometimes the best revenge is just being better at recruiting.
West clearly has options, and both franchises see something they like. The Jets have Glenn’s familiarity factor, but Detroit has… well, we have Dan Campbell and a team that’s been building momentum. That’s got to count for something.
This whole situation feels like accidentally cutting in line at the grocery store and not realizing it until you’re already checking out. Except instead of milk and bread, we’re talking about a player who could impact both rosters.
Think we just stole Glenn’s guy by accident, or is this the kind of chess match that happens every offseason? Let me know in the comments below.
