Lions Get Gift Schedule: Why 2026 Could Be Detroit’s Championship Window

The Lions get an easy schedule with a Germany trip against the Patriots and early Thursday night test in Buffalo as they look to bounce back with a manageable path to the playoffs.

The Schedule Drops Are Coming and the Lions Look Ready

Here we go again. The NFL schedule release circus is in full swing, and the Detroit Lions are right in the middle of it. We’re getting the slow drip of information all week long because heaven forbid the league just release everything at once like normal people.

The international games get announced Wednesday morning on Good Morning Football. The full schedule drops Thursday. And Lions fans are already getting some solid intel about what this season might look like.

What We Know So Far

The big news? Detroit heads to Germany in Week 10 to face the Patriots. That’s Sunday, November 15th at 9:30 a.m. ET on FOX. Early kickoff means early tailgates in Munich, which honestly sounds like exactly the kind of chaos Lions fans were built for.

We also know the Lions travel to Buffalo for Thursday Night Football in Week 2. September 17th, 8:15 p.m. ET on Prime Video. That’s a tough early season test on the road in primetime, but this team has handled bigger stages before.

And for those wondering about Thanksgiving, the Packers won’t be coming to Ford Field. Green Bay plays the Rams on Thanksgiving Eve instead. The Lions will host somebody else for their traditional holiday game, but we’ll have to wait to find out who.

The Full Opponent List

Based on the NFL’s rotation formula, we already know who Detroit faces in 2026. In 2026, the Lions will play the NFC North twice, the NFC South, the AFC East, and three last-place teams from 2025 after finishing fourth in their division.

At home: Bears, Packers, Vikings, Patriots, Saints, Giants, Jets, Buccaneers, and Titans.

On the road: Bears, Packers, Vikings, Cardinals, Falcons, Bills, Panthers, and Dolphins.

Look at that list and try not to get optimistic. The Lions are projected to have the easiest schedule in the NFL. FanDuel has Detroit as favorites to win the NFC North at +145, make the playoffs at -215, and contend for a Super Bowl at +1700.

Why This Matters

The Lions need to bounce back. This schedule looks manageable on paper, which is exactly what Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell need to get this team back on track.

The early Thursday night game in Buffalo will tell us a lot about where this team stands. The Germany trip in Week 10 gives the Lions a chance to build their international brand while facing a Patriots team that shouldn’t be too scary.

And that projected strength of schedule? It matters. The Lions have talent. They have coaching. Now they might actually have a path that doesn’t require beating playoff teams every other week.

The full schedule drops Thursday, and then we’ll know exactly what this road back to the playoffs looks like. But right now? This feels like the kind of schedule that could let the Lions remind everyone what they’re capable of.
